Earlier today, Sheriff Rene “Orta” Fuentes posted a public invitation on social media encouraging all Starr County Residents to attend an Active Shooter Preparedness Training to be held at the Rio Grande City K.C. Hall on Tuesday evening, August 20.
"We hope that we never have an incident of an Active shooter case in our communities, but we would like to provide an awareness and preparedness training for community members," stated Fuentes.
According to event organizers, this free training will bring to light some strategies that can be useful for personal safety and the safety of others. Active shooter incidents are usually random and unpredictable and can develop rapidly causing chaos and panic.
"We have learned that anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an incident or can learn measures to stay safe," added Fuentes. "My staff and I will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of the community."
The training presentation is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm. The Rio Grande City K.C. Hall is located on 201 E 4th St.
